After having the best time I ever had at an airport before; exploring The Wing and The Pier First Class lounges, it was finally time to experience Cathay Pacific B777 First Class. This flight was the entire reason I went all the way to Hong Kong for a weekend. I found a rare first class award seat available and called Alaska Airlines to book it quickly using 70,000 Alaska miles plus ~$76 in taxes and fees.
Flight Details:
Cathay Pacific CX846
Hong Kong (HKG) – New York (JFK)
Depart: 6:45PM
Arrive: 10:45PM
Duration: 16hrs 0mins
Aircraft: Boeing 777
Cost: 70,000 Alaska Airlines Miles + $76 in fees
During boarding, there were many more people on the First Class line than there are First Class seats. Once on the plane, I was the only one in the First Class cabin for a while. Other passenger boarding at the same time were elite members who were flying in business, premium economy or economy. Cathay Pacific First Class cabin consists of only 6 open suites with 180 degree recline in a 1-1-1 configuration. I was seated in suite 1A.
My first impression of the seat is that it is incredibly wide.
Crazy amounts of legroom. I couldn’t even reach the ottoman when the seat is in the upright position. Notice the small pillow and seat belt on the ottoman, they’re there because the ottoman can serve as a buddy seat where your companion can sit there during meal service and dine together.
To the left of seat are the entertainment controls, seat controls, large tray table small storage space.
Soon after settling in I was asked if I wanted a pre-departure drink; I asked for a glass of champagne. It was provided with some warm nuts. Cathay Pacific serves the delicious Krug Champagne in First Class!
Shortly after that, I was offered headphones and the amenity kit which included a comb, tooth brush, tooth paste, mouth wash and a couple of creams.
After that the menus were distributed.
Shortly after takeoff, I was provided with comfy pajamas and slippers.
I started off my meal service with caviar and champagne!
Each First Class passenger is presented with a nice handwritten welcome note during meal service.
After that I had the cannellini bean and garlic soup
For the main course, I ordered the stir fried Maine lobster which was very flavorful
After dinner, I went to change into my pajamas and asked for my bed to be made.

After sleeping for a few hours, I decided to watch a movie or two and ordered the grilled Australian prime grain fed beef burger with Swiss cheese and fries from the snacks menu.

I decided to stay awake for the remainder of the flight since I arrive New York at night time and I wanted to be able to sleep in order to avoid jet lag. So I watched more shows and ordered Hong Kong style milk tea and Hong Kong style egg tart which was very very good and tasty.
A couple hours out of New York I order breakfast which started with a bread basket and fresh fruit.
Then I got freshly scrambled eggs with bacon and sausage and potato cake
Cathay Pacific B777 First Class Bottom Line:
Cathay Pacific First Class truly lives up to the hype. I enjoyed every minute of that flight and can’t wait to experience it again. The service was great. The flight attendants really want to make your flight as comfortable and pleasant as possible. The seat is extremely comfortable and the bed, is probably as comfortable as my bed at home :). The food was great and delicious and of very good quality…. I mean, caviar and Krug champagne. I could’ve had that for the three meals 🙂
