This is my Cathay Pacific business class review for my flight from Bangkok to Hong Kong connecting to New York. After arriving on an hour flight from Phuket, this was the second flight of three for the day.

Flight Details:

Cathay Pacific 750
Bangkok (BKK) – Hong Kong (HKG)
Depart: 11:40am
Arrive: 3:35PM
Aircraft: Airbus A330

Booking Cathay Pacific Business Class:

This is the first leg of my Bangkok to New York trip which I booked several months before it departs for only 55,000 American AAdvantage miles; 50,000 of which I earned from the sign-up bonus on my US Airways® Premier World MasterCard® – Which is not available anymore.  Unfortunately, this price changed starting March 22nd after AAdvantage miles devaluation.

Airport and Lounge:

Bangkok airport at this hour was very busy and hectic. We quickly found our check in counter and the process went fairly quick.

Premium cabin passengers have a designated area labelled “Premium Lane” to go through passport control and security.

After that it was a long walk to the Cathay Pacific lounge. Bangkok airport has some nice cultural decor throughout the concourse and a TON of stores.

The lounge is split into three sections; relaxing seating area, a bar like area with stools and light snack and the restaurant seating style area “Noddle Bar”.

Waiting for lunch

We had a couple of drinks by the main seating area, then headed to the noodle bar to grab some lunch. We got miso soup, shrimp and beef dumplings and shrimp pad see ew – all were delicious.

Cathay Pacific A330 Business Class Cabin

Boarding was delayed and hectic; the boarding area was overcrowded and there was no clear designated line for business class passengers. After boarding, I checked in my coat and finally relaxed. This aircraft had a three cabin configuration – business class, premium economy, and economy class. Cathay Pacific business class cabin on the A330 consists of 39 flat bed seats that are 20.2 inches wide and have a pitch of 82 inches and are arranged in a 1-2-1 reverse herringbone configuration.

The Seat

Cathay Pacific business class seats are private enough if you’re traveling alone and are close enough if you’re traveling with a companion – you’ll have to lean forward in order to have a conversation with your seatmate.

There’s plenty of leg room

All the controls were to my left- entertainment controls, seat controls, reading light and a universal power outlet and a USB port (and A/V input!?).

Next to the controls is a small storage compartment for the headphones and a mirror on the compartment door.

The entertainment screen folds out with a push of a button

There’s also a small storage area to the side of the seat

Cathay Pacific Business Class Food and Beverage

Shortly after I sat down I was offered a pre departure beverage which was some sort of a delicious lemongrass juice. It tasted like what a fancy spa smells like 🙂

A few minutes later menus were distributed

Soon after take off I asked for a glass of red wine which was served with some warm nuts

Food service started quickly after that. The salad was served first with garlic bread and butter

I chose the stir fried kurobuta pork which was very flavorful

For dessert I got milk tea and vanilla ice cream

Since the flight time was only about two hours, I didn’t get to use the entertainment system much. I kept it on the flight information screen and I was doing some stuff on my phone and eating for the duration of the flight 🙂

Bottom Line:

This is an incredible product for a 2 hour flight – compare this to a 2 hour flight in “first class” in the U.S! 🙂 The seat is very comfortable, service was great, flight attendants were very attentive and helpful. It’s also amazing that you can add this flight or other similar flights on Cathay Pacific from Asia to Hong Kong as part of your itenirary from “Asia 2” to the U.S for 55,000 AAdvantage miles (at the time I booked it). Cathay Pacific business class from “Asia 2” to the U.S now costs 70,000 AAdavantage miles each way – which is still a great value and achievable through credit card sign up bonuses or bonuses on purchased miles.
