Understanding airline alliance is essential in deciding which miles to accrue from which airline and how you can use those miles to fly on other airlines. For example, you can accrue United MileagePlus miles from flying United Airlines, then redeeming those miles to fly on ANA, All Nippon Airways. Since you can’t transfer miles from one airline to another, it would make most sense to accrue miles from one or two maximum airlines from each alliance.
