How to maximize your purchased miles?

Before the major devaluation of Emirates redemptions that happened last year, I would’ve said your best use would be redeeming your miles for business or first class trips on Emirates to the Middle East/Africa/Asia. However, now your best use would be first class or business class trips on Cathay Pacific or Japan Airlines or Business class on Hainan Airlines.

90,000 Alaska miles is more than enough miles to get you all the way to Sydney with a stopover in Hong Kong in business class on Cathay Pacific for only 60,000 or First class for 80,000 miles. A trip like this can easily cost you upwards of $13,000!

Why Buying Alaska Miles is a Great Deal?

• You’re allowed a free stopover, even on a one-way award
• There are no fees if you cancel or change your award at least 60 days before departure. Changes within 60 days of departure will cost you a $125 change or mileage redeposit fee.
• There’s no limit to how many miles you can buy per promotion, this means you can buy up to 60,000 miles pre-bonus per transaction, but can make as many transactions as you’d like.

Bottom Line:

This is a great deal from Alaska Airlines. I don’t generally recommend buying miles unless you have a plan to redeem them in the near future. However, this is so great of a deal that if you’ve been holding off buying Alaska miles, this is the time to buy.
