1- Welcome Bonus:
Right now the Capital One® Venture® Rewards Credit Card is offering a welcome bonus of 50,000 miles after you spend $3,000 in the first 3 months. At 1 cent a piece, this welcome bonus is worth $500 which is the lowest value you should be getting out of your Venture Miles. Redeeming your miles at this value requires no research, no searching for award availability and no jumping through hoops; you just apply the points towards a travel purchase on your statement and it disappears – as long as it is within the last 90 days. Otherwise, you can transfer these points out to potentially get a lot more value than 1 cent a piece.
2- Earning 2X on Everything:
The way you earn miles on the Capital One® Venture® Rewards Credit Card is very straight forward which makes it great for those of you who don’t want to use too much brain power to keep swapping cards in your wallet based on the kind of purchase you’re going to make or the quarterly bonus category that keeps changing on you. The Venture Card earns 2 miles per dollar on everything, everywhere. Which means, at a value of a minimum 1 cent per point redemption, you’re earning at least 2 cents towards travel for every dollar you spend.

3- Easy Redemptions:
This is where the Capital One® Venture® Rewards Credit Card really stands out for me and started to be the card I recommend for anyone who comes to me asking what cards or points to use on a trip with short notice. Obviously, if you’re looking to fly in business or first class you need a lot of points and you need to transfer those points and book far in advance in order to find award availability. On the other hand, let’s say you’re taking your family to Disney in a month or two or going on a trip soon and just want to save some money and don’t care about business class or first class. Then the Capital One® Venture® Rewards Credit Card Purchase Eraser feature is what you need. This feature allows you to use points at a value of 1 cent per point to erase any eligible travel purchase that you made in the last 90 days. So if you open the card, book a trip using your new card, reach the minimum spend requirement quickly, have the welcome bonus miles post to your account in less than 90 days, then you can technically erase $500 from the cost of that trip by using the welcome bonus towards it.
4– Flexible Currency:
At the end of 2018, Capital One added 15 travel transfer partners, making the Venture One miles a flexible currency for the first time. This is exciting because it adds another way to top off your frequent flyer accounts if this is the way you’d rather use your miles.
Here’s a list of all the transfer partners capital one currently has, miles transfer to all partners at a ratio of 2:1.5 except for Emirates, Jetblue and Singapore Airlines where the ratio is 2:1.
- Aeromexico Club Premier (2:1.5)
- Air Canada Aeroplan (2:1.5)
- Air France/KLM Flying Blue (2:1.5)
- Alitalia MilleMiglia (2:1.5)
- Avianca LifeMiles (2:1.5)
- Cathay Pacific Asia Miles (2:1.5)
- Emirates Skywards (2:1)
- Etihad Guest (2:1.5)
- EVA Infinity MileageLands (2:1.5)
- Finnair Plus (2:1.5)
- Hainan Fortune Wings Club (2:1.5)
- JetBlue TrueBlue (2:1)
- Qantas Frequent Flyer (2:1.5)
- Qatar Airways Privilege Club (2:1.5)
- Singapore KrisFlyer (2:1)
Given that you earn 2 miles per dollar on everything, this means you’re earning 1.5 airline miles on everything except for Emirates, JetBlue and Singapore where it’ll be 1 mile per dollar. Also, it means you’ll be earning between 5 to 7.5 miles per dollar on purchases made on hotels.com.
5- First Year Annual Fee Waived:
This is always great in order to test out if a credit card is good for you and see if you’re getting value out of it that outweighs the annual fee. You can get the Capital One® Venture® Rewards Credit Card for free the first year then the annual fee is $95 after that.
6- Travel Perks:
The Capital One® Venture® Rewards Credit Card offers a statement credit up to $100 for TSA PreCheck or Global Entry – a great benefit for a credit card that only charges a $95 annual fee. This benefit is usually associated with premium credit cards that have a much higher annual fee.
The Capital One Venture Rewards Card has no foreign transaction fees so you can take it with you on your travels and earn miles everywhere you go.
The card offers secondary car rental insurance, up to $3,000 in lost luggage reimbursement and up to $250,000 in travel accident insurance. It also offers purchase protection where in the case of loss or damage within 90 days of purchase, you can also be reimbursed for replacements or repairs up to $500 per claim and $50,000 per cardholder.
You also get extended warranty up to one year for warranties of three years or less which is capped at $10,000 per claim or $50,000 per cardholder.
Capital One® Venture® Rewards Credit Card Bottom Line:
The Capital One Venture Rewards Card is a pretty solid card that has a good welcome bonus, nice and easy earning rate, good options for redemptions whether for fixed value or with transfer partners. I love the idea of erasing travel purchases up to 90 days back – makes it a great option for someone who is just starting out their points and miles journey who currently doesn’t have any points and looking to save money on an upcoming trip.
