For the first of my two nights in Hong Kong I stayed at the Intercontinental Hong Kong. The hotel is located on the Kowloon waterfront with spectacular views of the island. When looking for hotels for my stay in Hong Kong, the Intercontinental Hong Kong came to mind quickly, especially because I had an IHG free night certificate. Just for having the IHG® Rewards Club Select Credit Card you receive an annual free night certificate valid at any IHG hotel.

At the time of booking the paid rate per night was ~$350. This means I got that night for only $49 which is the annual fee on the IHG® Rewards Club Select Credit Card. I’d say that’s a pretty incredible value and more than justifies having this card for $49 per year.

The Intercontinental Hong Kong doesn’t look anything special from outside, if anything it looks dull.

The lobby is very spacious. Since I arrived at close to midnight, it was pretty empty and I checked-in in a few minutes.

The lady at the reception escorted me to the room and showed me the different amenities. The most interesting one is this “Handy” cell phone. It’s a cell phone that’s free to use during your stay; it can also be used as a hot spot for your devices. This phone came very “handy” 😉 when I wanted to make a phone call to make restaurant reservations. It’s also useful for navigation since it’s faster than my free 4G T-Mobile service.

The room is very nice and spacious. Once you enter, to your left is a counter with a pot and mugs for coffee or tea. And below it is the mini bar.

To the opposite side of that is the closet. It has a safe, iron and ironing board.

Facing the door is a desk.

The bathroom is to the left next to the bed.  It’s very nicely sized with a shower and a bathtub. The toilet was in it’s separate little room inside the bathroom.

There were two free water bottles on each nightstand.

At this point I was very tired from my long trip from New York and ready to sleep. I woke up the next morning early and went to check out the hotel’s amenities. First off the pool. I took a quick morning dip when it was pretty much empty and it was very enjoyable.

Once I sat on a lounge chair, a staff member came and offered me a towel and this tray with a face towel and a face mist.

Next, I went to the hot tub area that has amazing skyline views.

On my way to breakfast, I stopped at the gym very quickly…. just for pictures purposes 🙂

The Intercontinental Hong Kong lobby views are simply amazing. Truly a breakfast with a view.

Intercontinental Hong Kong Bottom Line:

The Intercontinental Hong Kong might not be the most luxurious or modern hotel in Hong Kong but it’s definitley the one with the best views. It’s also in a great location; very easy access to anything in Kowloon and just across the river from the Island.

The room was very comfortable and spacious, breakfast is delicious with tons of options, staff is very friendly. Overall I had a very pleasant stay at the Intercontinental Hong Kong.

Finally, using the free night certificate from the IHG® Rewards Club Select Credit Card is a great deal for this hotel.
