Trip Report: Asiana Airlines B747 Business Class Review – Seoul ICN to Hanoi HAN

After a couple of hours spent on social media and emails at the Asiana Airlines Seoul business class lounge; it was time to take our Asiana Airlines B747 business class flight to Hanoi. I was looking forward to this flight especially because it was my first time on the upper deck of a Boeing 747. I can’t decide which aircraft I like better; The Queen (Boeing 747) or The Whale (Airbus A380). Regardless, this was a true #avgeek flight for me. I was so excited; I made sure to be first one at the gate for boarding.

Boarding started on time and I was the first one to board the plane. Asiana Airlines used to sell the seats at the nose of the B747 as a first class fare. Now, Asiana doesn’t sell first class seats on their B747s; you’ll get business class service but the seats are much bigger and lay flat unlike the ones upstairs. Even tho I could’ve selected to sit in the nicer seats, I really wanted to sit in the upper deck of a 747. On the way back we sat in the nose in the bigger “first class” seats.

Asiana Airlines B747 upper deck business class cabin is arranged in 2-2 configuration with a total of 24 seats over 6 rows. Waiting at my seat was a blanket, pillow, pair of slippers, and headphones. The exit seats have a ton of leg room.

My seat had ample leg room as well.

The window seats have a ton of storage space between the seat and the window.

All the controls were to my left- entertainment controls, seat controls, reading light and a USB port.

Shortly after settling in we were offered some welcome drinks – I took some champagne this time.

After that we were given the menus.

For this flight I selected the western menu which started with shrimp salad in tomato with baby leaves and mixed greens.

I selected the beef tenderloin steak for the main course.

Since it’s been a very long day; I didn’t check out the entertainment system and elected to sleep instead. The seat is not the most comfortable since it’s angled flat, but it wasn’t terrible. I still managed to sleep for most of the remaining time.

Asiana Airlines B747 Business Class Bottom Line:

The business class product on this flight was very old and wasn’t the most comfortable. If I would take this flight again, I would definitley pick the bigger seats in the nose of the aircraft. I only picked the seats in the upper deck this time for the experience. Even tho the seats were not very comfortable, I managed to sleep for a few hours. The food was good and the service was great. The flight attendants were very attentive and helpful.
