After a little over a week of constant sightseeing and walking around, it was finally our time to relax. After searching many hotels for our stay in Phuket, I decided on The Naka Island Resort Phuket for it’s location and amenities. I’ve also been wanting to try one of SPG’s Luxury Collection hotels. The Naka Island Resort Phuket is truly an incredible place to stay at in Phuket. It is far from the hustle of the famous Patong area – the resort is set on it’s own private island.
The Naka Island Resort Phuket is a category 6 SPG property, which means a free night would cost 20,000 – 25,000 Starpoints. At the time of booking, I didn’t have enough Starpoints to cover our stay. The paid rate was about $400 per night for a Tropical Pool Villa. Thankfully, I have the Citi Prestige card which gave me the 4th night free on a 5 night stay.
Upon arrival, we were greeted at the airport and escorted to our private car to take us to the Ao Po Grand Marina. I had arranged with the concierge for pick up from the airport at an extra cost of about $70. The drive from the airport took approximately 35-40 mins.

From there we had our luggage transferred from the car to the boat that will take us to the hotel.

The hotel is a 5 minute boat ride from the Ao Po Grand Marina. You can ask for these shuttle boats, 24 hours a day.

After reaching the hotel’s dock, we were greeted by a concierge staff member who loaded our luggage onto a golf cart to drive us to reception.

The check in process was quick and smooth and we were driven to our Tropical Pool Villa.

Our villa dinning room was in it’s own hut set to the right of the walkway path from the entrance to the villa.

The rest of the villa was to the left walking down the entrance path.

There’s a small storage area, a mini bar, coffee and tea and complimentary water bottles to the left as soon as you enter the room.

To the right of the entrance, was the bed, which was extremely comfortable.

On the other side of the room, there was a built in couch, a desk and TV and iPod speaker.

There were some complimentary dry fruit and cookies on the desk

Across from the bed, was this cool cushion which you can lay on. Or you can sit and put your legs under the table in front of it.

Across from the entrance door, was another door that leads to the bathroom area. Interestingly, the bathroom area was sort of outdoors. It was all screened to prevent bugs, lizards and such (which still managed to sneak in). This area of the room wasn’t air-conditioned.

There’s plenty of room to store luggage and a nice area to get dressed after showering without having to go to the bedroom area of the villa.

The bathroom area is in a U shape. The other end leads to another door where you can access an outdoor bathtub and shower.

You can also go to the front of the villa where the pool is located.

The Naka Island Resort villas have one of the best private pools I’ve seen. The design is very elegant and “simple-chic”.

There’s plenty of outdoor seating options for a two person villa 🙂

After settling in, we decided to check out the rest of the resort and hangout by the pool area. The Naka Island Resort Phuket has a nice two level pool overlooking the beach.

Everyday from 2pm-5pm, you can get complimentary homemade ice cream by the pool. Coconut and mango were my two favorite flavors – delicious.

As a Gold member, I was offered two free drinks at the Z Bar which has amazing sunset views.

The next morning we had breakfast at the hotel’s Tonsai restaurant. It was buffet style which didn’t have many options. However, we were then informed that we can order a la carte from the menu which we opted for. Breakfast was included in our rate, and ordering from the menu is also included.

Later in the day we decided to head to the spa and get massages. We were greeted with this delicious hibiscus drink.

After our massage, we were escorted to this hut where we were served some tea and amazingly delicious and addicting dry fruit 🙂

The Naka Island Resort Phuket Bottom Line:
The Naka Island Resort Phuket is a great place to stay in Phuket. It is definitely fit for honeymooners, or anyone who wants to go to Phuket for relaxation. You can still get to Patong beach and the busy area of town. The concierge can arrange the 5 minute boat ride and a taxi driver that can take you anywhere you want around Phuket. You can also arrange day tours to James Bond Island and Phi Phi island. Some of the day trips even pick you up from the hotel’s dock – you don’t need to take a taxi to get on a day trip.
Service, amenities and food were pretty good overall. The staff was very attentive and helpful especially in arranging for trips and transportation.
