British Airways Terminates 4,500 Avios Award in North America!

British Airways Avios is my favorite currency for short haul award redemption on American Airlines. Unfortunetly, as of February 2nd, 2016 British Airways Terminates 4,500 Avios Award in North America! Those redemption will now start at 7,500 Avios, and other tiers of redemption remain unchanged.

This means, all flights that are currently priced at 4,500 Avios one-way in economy will jump to 7,500, one-way business-class flights will jump from 9,000 Avios to 15,000 and first-class flights will jump from 18,000 Avios to 30,000.

Bottom Line:

This is bad news for those who are used to redeeming 4,500 Avios for the popular routes in the examples above. However, it redeeming 7,500 Avios is still a relatively good deal compared to redeeming 12,500 AAdvantage Miles for the same routes for example. The good news is you still have until February 2, 2016 before this goes into effect.
