Trip Report: Asiana Airlines B747 First Class – Hanoi to Seoul
This post is part of the series Vietnam Trip Report 2016
After a long layover in Hanoi, we were on our way to New York via Seoul. This Asiana Airlines B747 First Class flight was another bucket list item for me; to sit in the nose of a Boeing 747. I had checked off another bucket list item earlier on this trip by sitting in the upper deck of a Boeing 747.
Asiana Airlines OZ734
Hanoi (HAN) – Seoul (ICN)
Arrive: 5:20AM +1
Duration: 4hrs 20mins
Aircraft: Boeing 747
Boarding started on time and I was the first one to board the plane. Asiana Airlines used to sell the seats at the nose of the B747 as a first class fare. Now, Asiana doesn’t sell first class seats on their B747s; you’ll get business class service but the seats are much bigger and lay flat unlike the ones upstairs.
Asiana Airlines B747 first class cabin is arranged in 1-1 configuration with the exception of the last row being 1-2-1 with a total of 10 seats over 4 rows. Waiting at my seat was a blanket, pillow, pair of slippers, and headphones.
The seats are very wide and comfortable with plenty of legroom.
All the controls were to my right- entertainment controls, seat controls, reading light, power outlet and a USB port.
Once I settled in the friendly hostess came by and offered some welcome drinks – I only got water. She also passed eye shades and ear plugs which was nice since this was a red eye flight.
After that we were given the menus.
I was so tired on this flight since we started the day in Phu Quoc, flew to Hanoi and had a 7 hour layover then got on this flight; so I didn’t eat and opted to sleep the entire flight instead. The seat was very comfortable in the lay flat position and wide enough to give me room to wiggle around.
I woke up when we were about to start our descent into ICN.
The flight attendant then came by and offered me a hot towel and asked if I wanted anything to drink before we land; I just asked for a glass of orange juice.
Asiana Airlines B747 First Class Bottom Line:
I didn’t get the full experience on this flight since I slept most of it. However, the seats in the nose of the plane are much much better than the ones on the upper deck. Also, I wasn’t expecting much of a difference in terms of service compared to my last flight in business class on the same aircraft. That’s because whether you’re upstairs or in the nose, you’re still considered a business class passenger; the only difference is the seat. For that reason, I would definitely recommend the seats in the nose especially because they’re much better even tho they cost the same whether you’re paying with points or cash.
